Sport Alliances - Bringing
Community Sport Together
|
Sport
Alliances throughout Manitoba are bringing their community
sports together. More and more organizations are realizing the
value of partnering.
In
small communities the number of organizations providing
"sport" programs and services can number in the
dozens. By forming an Alliance these groups not only achieve
their individual goals but also develop common goals and a
"collective will for the development of sport" in their
community. The teamwork approach results in a more efficient
sharing of the community's limited resources.
Manitoba
currently has 8 Community Sport Alliances: Winnipeg, Brandon,
Tri S, Beausejour, Lakeshore, Roblin-Shellmouth, Swan Valley and
Morden. The Morden Community Sport and Leisure
Alliance (MCSLA) has been active in providing coach development
opportunities in the Morden area. Most recently the MCSLA
hosted a Dartfish 'Analyze This' training session.
Dartfish is a
biomechanical analysis program. DARTFISH
Software analysis tools include: Timing events (e.g. batting swing);
Measuring movements (e.g. step length); Measuring velocity of
movements (e.g. ball speed); Video overlay (compare athletes to
professional/elite athletes); StroMotion software (view video footage
frame-by-frame)
Long before arriving at the Winter Olympics, athletes
used Dartfish in their training routines to analyze their
performances and correct mistakes, to evaluate their opponents'
performances and to increase their chances of taking home a medal.
Broadcasters around the globe have used the unique StroMotion and
SimulCam features to enhance production and create stunning analyses
for the worldwide viewing public.
The MCSLA has purchased the Dartfish software and equipment
and has made it available for rent by local organizations. Anyone using the equipment must
first complete the 'Analyze This' Dartfish software training.
A second clinic
was hosted by the MCSLA in April presenting a new educational
DVD for coaches. The Learn to Train
/Train to Train DVD focuses on Dynamic Warm-up, Core
Strength and Speed Development. It features developmental
athletes in age appropriate drills and is the first of a series of
multi-sport videos dealing with Long Term Athlete
Development. The MCSLA will be hosting another Learn
to Train/Train to Train clinic on June 22nd. For more
information contact coordinator@mcsla.net .
These are just a few examples of how a Community
Sport Alliance can bring opportunities to your community. If
you would like more information about Community Sport Alliances please

KidSport
|
The Spring
deadline to apply for KidSport funding has now passed and
allocations have been made. Central Region approved
69 applications, allocating $6,719 this spring. This is a
35% increase in funds allocated compared with the spring of
2009.
KidSport receives no government funding and thus must
raise all funds through the local communities. When donations are
made to KidSport Central Region, 100% of the donation stays
within Central Region and goes directly to children in need.
If
you would like to support the children in Central Region and
give them the chance to participate in sport, please click here or contact
the Sport Manitoba - Central Region office to make a donation.
If you are interested in volunteering to help at any
KidSport events or joining the KidSport Committee, please also
