KidSport - So All Kids Can Play!

This spring, the Central Region KidSport Committee was successful in making dreams come true for 54 children from around the region.  The Central Region KidSport Committee was able to allocate $4,324.00 to help these children participate in their favorite sports by helping to cover the cost of registration fees.  The committee hopes that all the children funded will enjoy taking part in their chosen sport, which included baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, high school athletics, soccer and swimming.

To help fund all 54 athletes, KidSport received support from the Canadian Tire Jump Start Foundation.  KidSport Central Region is currently a partner and member of two Canadian Tire Jump Start Foundation chapters:  Heartland (Winkler) and Portage La Prairie.  We could like to thank the Canadian Tire Jump Start Foundation for allowing us to partner with such a great organization. For more information about Canadian Tire Jump Start please visit http://www/canadiantire.ca/jumpstart

To ensure that KidSport™ Canada-Manitoba can continue to assist less fortunate children participate in organized sport we need everyone's help. KidSport™ funding would not be available without the support of individuals, communities, corporations or foundations.  Please visit www.kidsportcanada.ca and click DONATE NOW, to support the KidSport™ Manitoba Fund, Central Chapter - so ALL kids can play!

KidSport is a children's charity designed to help chidlren, up to 18 years of age, overcome financial barriers, so that they can take part in sport and reap the many rewards that sport can give to a child.

Renewal of the Canadian Sport Policy

All Manitobans Can Have Their Say by Participating in an On Line Survey Today

The current Canadian Sport Policy has provided a powerful vision for the development and delivery of all levels of sport in Canada.  The federal and provincial/territorial Ministers responsible for sport are asking all Canadians to have their input into its renewal in 2012 though their participation in an online survey.

Now is the time for both the public as well as the sport communities in Manitoba to help build a shared policy that reflects the sport they want in Canada.  The vision of the renewed policy will lay the foundation and goals which the partners in sport will focus over the next ten years.

"This is the first time that all Manitobans will have a chance to voice their opinions, ideas, and concerns regarding the future goals and direction of amateur sport in their province," said Jeff Hnatiuk President & CEO for Sport Manitoba. "I encourage as many people as possible from across the entire province to complete the Canadian Sport Policy survey."

The Policy challenges all stakeholders to open and make sport accessible to every segment of our society. It seeks to improve the sport experience of all Canadians by helping to ensure coordinated planning and effective programming as well as transparency within their sport system. The shared vision is to develop a dynamic and leading-edge sport environment that enables all Canadians to experience and enjoy their involvement in sport to the extent of their abilities and interests.

To take the Canadian Sport Policy survey online, please go to http://www.sirc.ca/csprenewal/mb.cfm and click on Canadian Sport Policy Survey, "How Can You Contribute?"

Central Region Athlete Receives Award at the

Sport for Life Gala!

The awards given out at Sport Manitoba's Sport for Life Gala recognize the remarkable efforts of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers in amateur sport in our province.

This year one of Central Region's own athletes was the recipient of the Great West-Life Youth Volunteer of the Year Award - Alex Warburton - MHSAA

Alex has volunteered her time to contribute to all aspects of the high school sport delivery system.  A Grade 12 student at Sanford Collegiate and a member of the Canada Games Manitoba Basketball team, she has devoted her time to being the Rural Manitoba Student Representative on the MHSAA Board of Directors for the past two years.  Working with principals, superintendents, and government officials, she has contributed to rule making concerning eligibility, governance, discipline, and tournament formats.  She has set a positive example for her fellow teammates and high school athletes around Manitoba.

Congratulations Alex!
