February is usually the time of year when everyone starts to look forward to warmer weather and playing late spring & summer sports.  As registration approaches for these sports, we'd like to remind parents about the April 30th deadline to apply for KidSport Funding Assistance.  For more information on KidSport, please read our article below.

Sport For Life Grant Manual

Sport Manitoba's 2011-2012 Sport For Life Grant Manual will be in effect until March 30th, 2012.  Don't forget to submit your applications and post event reports to receive your sport development funding  We currently offer the following grants:

  1. Hosting an Athlete Skill Development Clinic/Camp
  2. Hosting a Regional Championship
  3. Athlete/Team Travel Assistance
  4. Coach/Official Travel Assistance
  5. Provincial Sport Organization Club Development Grant
  6. Introduction of a New Sport to a Community
  7. Sport Special Initiatives
  8. Bingo's

Up-Coming KidSport Deadline

The next KidSport application deadline for the Central Region is APRIL 30, 2012.  Applications for spring, summer & early fall sport programs will be accepted and considered for the April 30th deadline.  Applications for Equipment are accepted on an on-going basis. 

 

Applications are available in various places: your child's school, from the Sport MB - Central office, online and some sport organizations.  Please check the KidSport website HERE to download the most current application form.

 

It's always appreciated if applications are sent well in advance of the deadline dates, including all the required family income documentation etc. (i.e. Notice of Assessment etc.). There are other forms of income documentation we will accept in cases where a family has never filed income tax in Canada.   It can take time to gather your information so please start as soon as possible.  Late or incomplete applications will not be processed.

Coach Recognition

Don't forget to nominate your coach for the Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards.  The nomination deadline Friday, February 3, 2012.  Major Award Categories for 2011 include:

  • Active Start/Fundamentals (Previously called Grassroots) - Vince Leah Award
     Individuals who coach grassroots athletes of any age. The coaching environment at this level is primarily non-competitive, with an emphasis on participation and having fun.
  • Learn to Train-Train to Train (Previously called Developmental) - Dr. Jack Hunt Award
     Coaches who are responsible for athletes developing competitive skills and preparing for competition   (i.e. regional, provincial, or Canada Games).
  • Train to Compete-Train to Win (Previously called High Performance) - Peter Williamson Award
     Coaches who primarily work with athletes that compete at the national or international level.
  • School System Athletes - Peter Dick Award
     These coaches are paid employees of a school (i.e. teacher, guidance counselor, principal) who coach as an extra-curricular activity. This award is open to those individuals who coach at all grade levels from elementary through middle years and high school.

When appropriate the Excellence Awards will also recognize two additional categories: Years of Service and International Coach.

Another way to recognize your coaches efforts is by nominating them for Coaching Manitoba's "Coach of the Month" program. Nominations are accepted for coaches at all levels of sport (grassroots through high performance) who make extraordinary contributions to sport and athlete development.   Deadline for nominations is the 25th of each month. Manitoba in motion Community Physical Activity Grants

The Manitoba in motion Community Physical Activity Grant is available to help community partnerships plan and implement ways to increase physical activity. The funds must be used for new or expanded activities and not for existing programs and services. Providing after school physical activity options for children and youth could be an eligible project.

 

The next application intake deadline is February 6, 2012.

Manitoba to Host National Soccer B License Course

The Canadian Soccer Association has confirmed that Manitoba will be hosting the B National License course on August 20-26th, 2012.

 

The B National License (B License - Part 2) focuses on working with high performance youth athletes and older ages.  This course involves both theory and practical coaching work.  Each participant will undergo two (2) practical coaching assessments.  Successful participants will receive a Canadian Soccer Association National B License. 

 

Pre-requisite: Successful pass of 'B' Provincial License and approved application though the Manitoba Soccer Technical Department.

Course Length: 6 days residential

Registration: This is a Canadian Soccer Association course, however ALL coaches from Manitoba who would like to attend this level must register through Manitoba Soccer
